Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers were thumped last time around.

Josh Windass has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that writing the Gers out of the title race is a “ridiculous statement” to make this early in the season.

Rangers were thumped 5-1 at Celtic last Saturday in a defeat which illustrated quite a gap in quality between both sides, though Mark Warburton’s side did concede the final two goals with 10 men on the field, after Philippe Senderos’s red card.

That result left the Gers four points behind their Old Firm rivals -who have a game in hand – at the summit of the Scottish Premiership; a deficit which could be hard to make up, given what we saw at Parkhead.

Plenty of high-profile former players of both clubs have since come out and claimed that it is too early for Rangers to consider a title challenge.

There is, however, up to 33 games left this season, and Windass, probably his team’s best player last weekend, is adamant that writing off Warburton’s troops is ridiculous.

He told the club’s official YouTube channel: “I heard Kenny [Miller] speak the other week about being seven points behind with five or six games left, and they still won the league. We’re fifth game in so to say we’re out of the title race at this moment in time is a ridiculous statement to be honest.”
