Josh Windass asked whether Rangers are closing gap to Celtic

Glasgow Rangers midfielder Josh Windass was asked whether the Ibrox side have closed the gap to Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Josh Windass has told Rangers’ official YouTube channel that he feels that Rangers are closing the gap to Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, and hinted that that will show by the end of the season.

The Gers’ first season back in the top flight proved to be an extremely disappointing one at Ibrox, with the Hoops claiming the domestic treble and winning the top flight by 30 points, while they were 39 points clear of the Light Blues.

Brendan Rodgers’ men have taken little time to move themselves to the top of the table once again this term, with Pedro Caixinha’s side third, six points adrift after eight games, with the Hoops taking the spoils when the two teams met in the first Old Firm meeting of the season.

Nevertheless, Windass believes that Rangers are in a better position this season, and will show that they are closer to the Bhoys by the time the campaign comes to an end.

“Yeah, obviously we’ve got a new team,” he told the club’s official YouTube channel when asked whether he feels that the gap is closing.

“There’s a big transition period going on, but I think with the team we’ve got now, we should putting a better challenge than last year.”

As Windass suggests, Rangers are still going through a period of transition with the side undergoing major changes during Caixinha’s first summer at the club, and the Portuguese may perhaps argue that there is still more to be done before he feels that they have a squad that is good enough to challenge Celtic.

So while Gers fans will not like the idea, perhaps there can be some encouragement to come out of the campaign even if they miss out on the title, as if they have finished closer to Celtic, they can be optimistic that they may be on the right tracks to ultimately catching them.
