Rangers midfielder Carlos Pena has left Ibrox to join Pedro Caixinha’s Cruz Azul on loan.
Rangers flop Carlos Pena has been confirmed as returning to his home country Mexico and reuniting with former Light Blues manager Pedro Caixinha by joining Cruz Azul – and Josh Windass, as well as Rangers fans, have reacted.
Cruz Azul confirmed the move on their official website, stating 27-year-old Pena has joined after completing Monday’s medical with ease and ending what was a difficult spell at Ibrox.
The Daily Record claim Pena has joined Caixinha’s side on a one-year loan deal, meaning he will remain with the Mexican giants until January 2019, with the report claiming that Azul will be paying his £24,000-a-week wages.
Powerhouse midfielder Pena posted a tweet of his own after the move, stating he was “happy to return to Mexico, to a great club. Ready to strive to the maximum and have an excellent 2018.”
19-time Mexico international Pena scored five goals in 14 league and cup appearances during his short spell with the Gers, but his inconsistent performances saw him dip in and out of the team.
Rangers teammate Josh Windass replied to Pena’s tweet, saying “Good luck my friend” while Rangers fans also reacted to Pena’s tweet with one Gers supporter tweeting “Please play well so they’ll buy you” on a permanent basis.
