Leeds United held on to earn a narrow 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Boxing champion Josh Warrington claimed on Twitter that Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Middlesbrough was a “much-needed” result as the Whites overcame former manager Garry Monk.
Thomas Christiansen’s side came into the game at Elland Road under huge pressure, after losing seven of the last eight games prior to Sunday’s clash.
But goals from Pablo Hernandez and Ezgjan Alioski put Leeds in the driving seat against Monk’s side, who also included former Whites academy product and captain Jonny Howson in their starting eleven.

Britt Assombalonga scored from the penalty spot after an incident involving Luke Ayling and Daniel Ayala to set up a nervy last 15 minutes, but Leeds held on despite chances for Marcus Tavernier and Stewart Downing.
Warrington, who is currently the WBC International Featherweight champion, is known for his love of Leeds and took to Twitter to express his delight at the victory over their Teesside opponents.
Warrington’s connection with Christiansen’s side even stretches back to his last bout, which saw hot-head defender Gaetano Berardi join Warrington in his ring walk before the boxer’s fight against Dennis Ceylan in October.
The win sees Leeds immediately rise up the Championship table to seventh place, level on points and just one point behind Middlesbrough, as they travel to the Molineux on Wednesday night to face table-toppers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
