Josh Onomah and Harry Winks have both commented after their performances in Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Gillingham.

The match was notable as it saw Onomah score his first ever goal for the club, while Winks was making his first competitive start.

Both players were quizzed by the club’s media channel after the game, and spoke emotionally about what the EFL Cup clash meant to them personally.

Winks, 20, described playing at White Hart Lane as a goal he had dreamed of for the last 15 years.

Onomah admitted he too had been waiting to net his first ever Tottenham goal and was delighted to get off the mark.

The delight in Onomah’s face as he celebrated was clear to see, and it will be a weight off his shoulders after breaking through last season.

He looked at times during his Premier League and Europa League cameos last season that he was trying a bit too hard to make things happen and did not look quite ready to make the step up from under-21 football.

While only facing League One opposition last night, he seemed more comfortable, and scoring his first goal will settle his nerves and enable him to hopefully kick on and show his class.
