Norwich City winger Josh Murphy says he can’t wait to face former club MK Dons following Tuesday’s hat-trick in the EFL Trophy.

Murphy, who has been somewhat overshadowed by twin brother Jacob at Carrow Road this season, staked his claim for a more regular spot in Alex Neil’s first team during a 5-0 win for the Under-23s against Barnet – in which summer signings Sergi Canos and Nelson Oliveira also scored.

The result saw Dmitri Halajko’s side progress to the knockout stages alongside their final opponents MK Dons, with whom Murphy spent last season on loan.

The 21-year-old posted on Twitter:

Murphy was a regular for the Dons, missing just four Championship fixtures, scoring five goals and assisting nine, with Jacob shining for Coventry in the league below.

However, it is the latter who has had the biggest impact this season, scoring six goals and assisting one in nine outings, although one of his brother’s two strikes helped to knock Everton out of the EFL Cup. Josh also has three assists this season at senior level.

Meanwhile, Dons boss Karl Robinson has branded the new EFL Trophy format as ‘rubbish’ in an interview with the BBC.
