Josh Maja wants to stay at Sunderland next season.
The 19-year-old is in his final year of contract at Sunderland, who will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship at the end of the 2017-18 campaign.
A number of players have already left the Black Cats this summer, including Paddy McNair, Jason Steele and Joel Asoro.
Maja, though, has made it clear that he will stay at Sunderland and fight for his place in Jack Ross’s starting lineup next season.
When asked about his commitment to the cause at Sunderland, Maja told The Sunderland Echo: “One hundred per cent this is where I want to be right now.
“I want to play football here, it’s the right option. As long as I keep working hard and pushing myself, I can do that.”
Positive for Sunderland
Maja is a hugely talented footballer and is one of the best young players on the books of Sunderland at the moment.
It would be great for the Black Cats if they are able to agree on a deal with the 19-year-old forward, who could be an important player for Ross next season, as they aim to win automatic promotion to the Championship.
The teenager made six starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Championship for Sunderland last season, scoring one goal in the process.
