Speaking to Everton’s YouTube channel, Joshua King has shared the details of his first phone conversation with Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands.
The most interesting takeaway is that King says that the pair told him he’d have to work hard if he was going to join Everton.
The Norwegian signed for Everton on deadline day, but at one point it looked as though he was headed to Fulham, having agreed terms with the Cottagers.
However, one phone call later, he was on his way to Everton, and he’s now shared what was said.
“I got a phone call from the boss, Carlo Ancelotti, and [Director of Football] Marcel Brands,” King said
“They kept it quite straight and said I would be given an opportunity and would have to work hard.
“They want me in the squad to help push for the Europa League and Champions League and we are in a good position now.”
King would go on to say that the allure of working with Ancelotti was one of the driving factors to him signing for Everton.
“Obviously having Carlo Ancelotti who’s won what he has and having the experience and he’s a big big name in football, I couldn’t turn down Everton and the opportunity to work with Carlo,” King said.

This is very interesting insight into the striker’s move.
Ancelotti and Brands didn’t convince him with delusions of grandeur or promises that couldn’t be kept, they told him straight that he’d get a chance if he worked hard, and it looks as though that’s a challenge he’s willing to take on.
Hopefully, King does put the effort in and helps fire the Toffees into the Champions League.
