Tottenham Hotspur wanted Josh King in the summer, but he was not the only Bournemouth player that Spurs were keen on signing.
Ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth this weekend, much of the build-up from a Cherries’ perspective has centred around whether Josh King will be able to make Spurs rue their decision not to follow up their summer interest in him.
Tottenham appeared to be linked with King for most of the summer, with The Telegraph reporting in June that Mauricio Pochettino was keen on targeting the Norway international.
The move did not happen of course, and King will go into this game looking to show Tottenham that they perhaps made a mistake not meeting his asking price – but he is not the only Cherries player Spurs looked at over the summer now potentially looking to impress the title contenders.
The Daily Mirror reported in May that Adam Smith was on Tottenham’s radar as they prepared to lose Kyle Walker, who would ultimately move to Manchester City.
Much like the striker situation, Spurs would address their right-back depth issues in the final hours of the window as they ended up signing Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain, months after being linked with Smith.
It is not clear how serious Tottenham’s interest in their former academy starlet became or whether Smith would have left the Vitality Stadium had the chance presented itself, but he will surely be determined to prove to his old club this weekend – especially those who may have underwhelmed with the rumours – that he not only deserved more chances when he was a Spurs player, but they also should have tried harder to bring him back during the summer.
