West Ham United landed one Championship star in January, but missed out on the chance to make it two.
Winger Jarrod Bowen joined the Hammers from Hull City in January, and has made a huge impact already with one goal and three assists in eight Premier League outings.
David Moyes is happy to shop in the Championship, and he wanted to bring Josh Brownhill to East London too having been impressed with him at Bristol City.
Brownhill used to play for Moyes’ former club Preston North End, and the Scot was keen to add the ex-Manchester United youngster to the West Ham squad.
However, Burnley ended up winning the race. The 24-year-old joined the Clarets for £9million, and has turned in decent displays of late.
West Ham ended up signing Czech star Tomas Soucek instead, and with two goals in his last two games, the Hammers won’t be saddened by him being their backup target.

Now, Brownhill has spoken about his decision. He told the Daily Star (05/07, p42) that whilst West Ham are a ‘big club’, he had his heart set on joining Burnley because they offered greater security as a Premier League club.
“My heart was set on Burnley,” said Brownhill. “We were in talks for a couple of weeks and I knew it was the right place. West Ham is a big club as well but in January, Burnley were a lot safer in the table. For me, it was about being in the Premier League and Burnley just ticked every box,” he added.
