Quite a lot of former Newcastle United players are excited by the prospect of a takeover.
Saudi Public Investment Fund’s £300 million buy-out of the Magpies is yet to be ratified by the Premier League but there is reportedly optimism from their side and Mike Ashley’s that a deal will be confirmed.
Joselu spent two years on Newcastle’s books until 2019.
And the Spanish striker has told AS that ‘it’ll be a blast’ when the new owners are in place at the ‘spectacular’ St James’s Park.
The 30-year-old said: “Newcastle is a very big club with an incredible fans. The stadium is spectacular and if this new project goes well it will be a blast.”
It will indeed be a blast but Newcastle fans won’t be getting excited until it actually materialises.
There’s been a six-week delay in getting a deal over the line as the Premier League carries out a thorough background check of the Saudi group, following suggested links to broadcast piracy.
Fans of the North-East club have thought they were getting rid of Ashley before, only for previous deals to collapse.
And although it’s far closer to materialising on this occasion, no supporter will be counting their chickens.
