Rafael van der Vaart has sent a message to José Mourinho, Gareth Bale and Luka Modrić on Twitter after replying to a Tottenham fan account.

After El Chiringuito revealed that Mourinho contacted Modrić over a potential return to Spurs, van der Vaart reacted to a tweet suggesting he return as well so the ‘band’ can get back together.

You can see what the Dutchman tweeted below.

It would be utterly romantic for Tottenham supporters if van der Vaart and Modrić followed Bale in making a return to north London.

At times, the trio were simply unstoppable under Harry Redknapp, and helped Tottenham qualify for their first ever Champions League campaign.

In 77 appearances for Tottenham, van der Vaart scored 28 goals and recorded 18 assists.

In Modrić’s case, the Croatian registered 17 goals and 27 assists in 160 appearances for the club.

Lastly, Bale has racked up 58 goals and 58 assists in 212 outings for Spurs, and he’s still not finished yet.

Without a doubt, all three of the aforementioned players are Tottenham cult heroes.

They played a huge role in transforming the club from a mid-table side to a top-six outfit.

Van der Vaart would have to come out of retirement to appear for Spurs again.

Regardless of that, and how his physical condition may be, we reckon there’s still enough quality in that left foot to trouble Premier League defences.
