Everton are said to be interested in signing Middlesbrough Marten De Roon this summer.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is a high profile admirer of Everton’s latest transfer target Marten De Roon (Metro).
De Roon has impressed during his first season in English football with Middlesbrough, with the midfielder earning a lot of his credit for his performances.
And one particular piece of high praise he has received is from Mourinho.
After United had taken on Middlesbrough earlier in the campaign, the Portuguese boss said: “Boro have a good team, a solid midfield.
“This kid De Roon is phenomenal, his work-rate is phenomenal, they’re solid and they play direct.”
As an opposition player, to earn an endorsement off Mourinho is no easy feat, so Everton fans should feel enthused by the rumours that Ronald Koeman is chasing the Dutchman.
The Daily Mail claim that Everton have had scouts posted at Middlesbrough’s recent matches, as they keep tabs on the central-midfielder.
It is thought that De Roon would cost over £12 million this summer, if Middlesbrough were to cash in.
In total, De Roon has made 34 appearances for Boro in all competitions this season, scoring five times, but he has been unable to save the North East side from facing the drop.
