Jose Mourinho has said on talkSPORT (9:58am, June 18, 2021) that Rangers fans still thank him for beating Celtic in the 2003 UEFA Cup final.

FC Porto, who then had Mourinho as the manager, defeated Celtic 3-2 in the final of the UEFA Cup in 2003.

Henrik Larsson scored twice for the Hoops, who lost the game after extra time.

The loss was certainly a huge disappointment for Celtic, but Rangers fans surely enjoyed it.

Rangers and Celtic are bitter Old Firm rivals. A defeat for the Bhoys is a win for the Gers.

Mourinho, now the manger of AS Roma, has said that Rangers fans on the streets still thank him for the win against Celtic all those years ago.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager said on talkSPORT (9:58am, June 18, 2021): “Now what I find in the streets of London and others, what I find is still the Rangers fans thanking me for that final. ‘Oh Jose, thank you very much for the final, thank you so much’.”

Big season ahead

Both Rangers and Celtic will have big seasons in 2021-22.

Rangers won the Scottish Premiership title last season and could feature in the Champions League in 2021-22.

Celtic had an awful campaign, and under a new manager, the Bhoys will be determined to reclaim the title from Steven Gerrard’s side.

The 2021-22 campaign promises to be hugely exciting in terms of the Scottish Premiership title race.
