Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final yesterday.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho addressed the media in the aftermath of his side’s hard fought 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham yesterday, and disclosed the details of a text message that he received from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward prior to the match, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

The Red Devils currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, and have safely booked their place in the final of the FA Cup, and with that in mind, it is hard to understand why Mourinho has received such strong criticism from some quarters this season.

It has only been because of Manchester City’s brilliance that United have been unable to mount a sustained push for the Premier League title, because after all, if they win their last four games, they will finish the campaign with a total of 86 points – a tally that would have been good enough to win the league in four of the last eight seasons.

Mourinho spoke to reporters after his side’s win over Spurs, and shared the message of support that he received from Woodward before the match, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News:

“I had this morning one simple SMS from one of my bosses, Ed Woodward. And he was saying, ‘I believe we are going to win but if we don’t the season is a good season. The season is a season where everybody was professional and everybody is trying to bring the club in the right direction’.”

Next up for United is a clash with old rivals Arsenal on Sunday and there is nothing that Mourinho would like more than to turn the Gunners over in what will be Arsene Wenger’s last game in charge of the north Londoners at Old Trafford.
