The World Cup is well underway, and almost everyone connected with the game is enjoying the festival of football this summer.
There’ve already been some unforgettable moments at the World Cup – Lionel Messi breaking the goalscoring record, Cristiano Ronaldo becoming the first player to score in six tournaments and Cape Verde upsetting all of the odds and making it through the groups.
Speaking on the Beast Mode On Podcast, Jose Mourinho was asked what he’s most looking forward to at the World Cup, and, interestingly, he gave a very different answer.
Jose Mourinho’s one World Cup request
Mourinho shared his one request for the World Cup this summer.
The former Chelsea boss wasn’t interested in much of the tournament, instead he said he just wants his Real Madrid players out as quickly as possible to get them on holiday and back for pre-season.
“What are you looking most forward to at the World Cup this year?” Mourinho was asked.
“You want the truth?” Mourinho said.
“I want Real Madrid players to lose and go on holiday because I want the guys back to preseason.”
Mourinho wants his Madrid players out of the tournament as quickly as possible, but, ultimately, that’s going to be difficult.
Indeed, Madrid have players scattered all over the tournament, Jude Bellingham is England’s star man, Vinicius Jr is Brazil’s best player, while France are packed full of Madrid stars too.
Interestingly, there’s only one Madrid player in the Spain squad, and, even then, that’s Marc Cucurella who is a very new addition.
Mourinho likely won’t get his wish, but perhaps his best hope is an early exit for France so the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Ibrahima Konate and Aurelien Tchouameni can return to pre-season as quickly as possible.
