Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that Carlos Vinicius needs to be more physical to play in the Premier League.

Mourinho made the comments about the 25-year-old following the forward’s heroics for Tottenham against Ludogorets Razgrad at home on Thursday evening.

The 25-year-old Brazilian scored twice for the Premier League club, as they won the Europa League game 4-0.

Mourinho was pleased with Vinicius’s performance, but the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager believes that the forward, signed on loan from Benfica in the summer of 2020, needs to be more physical to play in the Premier League.

The Portuguese told Football.London about Vinicius: “He is not playing a lot, especially in Premier League but he helped us to win the game at West Bromwich and in Europa League he is doing okay and adapting. Today was good that he scored an important goal.

“The second one is 75 per cent Dele’s goal, but then in the second half he assists Lucas for his goal. He is a big boy, a strong boy and needs to be more physical in the Premier League but I am happy.

“It is good for the team to have that because for example last season, if Harry Kane needed a rest – we couldn’t and because Vinicius is here, the squad is much more balanced.”

Adapting to life at Tottenham Hotspur

Vinicius seems to be still adapting to life at Tottenham. The forward is a regular in the Europa League, but he is a squad player for Premier League games at the moment.

According to WhoScored, the Benfica-owned forward has played just 12 minutes in the Premier League, and he has scored two goals and provided three assists in 267 minutes in the Europa League for Spurs so far this season.

The forward is a good option to have in the squad for Mourinho.
