Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has told BT Sport that he is happy with Carlos Vinicius.
Mourinho has said that Vinicius is doing well for Spurs, but the Portuguese has said that the form of Harry Kane means that the 25-year-old forward is struggling for playing time.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager made the comments following Tottenham’s 2-0 win against Dinamo Zagreb at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
Kane started the match and scored both the goals, and Vinicius came on as a substitute.
Mourinho has said that he is very happy with the 25-year-old, signed on loan from Benfica in the summer of 2020, and has explained why Kane had to start ahead of him.
Mourinho told BT Sport about Vinicius: “I am so happy with what Vinicius is giving us, but the reality is that when we have Harry on the pitch, it’s a different story for us. This is a very important match. We want to qualify for quarters, and we decided for him to play and of course he was happy to do that for us.”

Squad player
Mourinho may be happy with Vinicius’s contribution, but there is no doubt that the 25-year-old is a squad player at Spurs.
According to WhoScored, the Brazilian forward has made one start and six substitute appearances in the Premier League, and has scored six goals in eight Europa League games for Spurs so far this season.
With Gareth Bale now in good form and Kane and Son Heung-min doing well, Vinicius’s playing time at Spurs in the coming weeks is going to be severely limited.
