Paul Gilmour has told Sky Sports News that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho held a meeting with Daniel Levy this morning, where he was told that he would be sacked.

Tottenham announced Mourinho’s dismissal earlier today, and their training session has now been pushed back until this afternoon.

Ryan Mason will take charge of training following Mourinho’s departure.

Gilmour has now confirmed that Tottenham sources have told him that Mourinho and Levy held a meeting this morning.

It was in that conversation that Mourinho was told that Tottenham’s results simply hadn’t been good enough to keep him in the job.

“Some information just beginning to filter out here from Enfield. Some details about what happened this morning,” Gilmour said.

“Jose Mourinho was called to a meeting with Daniel Levy, the players’ training session has been put back. Ryan Mason will take that.

“The players will train this afternoon ahead of that game against Southampton and the cup final.

“Mourinho was told that he was no longer needed and results have not been good enough. That’s the information we’re hearing, the predominant reason for this according to club sources, is that results simply were not good enough.”

Spurs currently lie in seventh place in the Premier League table, and their performances had been getting worse rather than better.

Tottenham claimed a 2-2 draw against Everton on their last outing, but were fortunate to escape with a point after a dismal display at Goodison Park.

The timing of Mourinho’s dismissal is very interesting, as Spurs have a League Cup final in under a week, against Manchester City.
