Harry Kane really struggled for Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League final.
Jose Mourinho has shared his tactical observations about Harry Kane’s performance for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Tottenham were beaten Champions League finalists as Liverpool edged out Mauricio Pochettino’s side 2-0 in Madrid this past weekend.
Controversially, Pochettino started Kane up front, despite the Spurs striker having not kicked a ball for nearly two months due to injury.
He was not match-fit and it showed during the 90 minutes, as Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk refused to let him be the player that he is.
Here’s what Mourinho said to beIN Sport on the night: “They couldn’t link the play. Harry Kane was hidden all the time. Normally he drops back, comes in between the lines. Normally he’s the link, building play.”
In hindsight, Pochettino, who defended the decision to start Kane, probably should have played Lucas Moura instead.
The Brazilian, whose hat-trick at Ajax got Tottenham into the final, was left on the bench until midway through the second half.
He would have been far fitter than Kane, which means he would have been far more likely to have an impact.
