Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that he trusts Son Heung-min and Daniel Levy to find an agreement on a new deal.

Spurs are trying to get Son tied down to a new contract, even though his current deal only expires in the summer of 2023.

Spurs want to reward Son for his stunning form this year with a bumper new deal, taking him towards Harry Kane and Tanguy Ndombele in Tottenham’s earnings.

The 28-year-old has smashed 13 goals and seven assists in just 19 games this season, with Premier League defences simply unable to contain him.

Some are now suggesting that Son is the finest Asian player to ever play in the Premier League, and he shows no sign of slowing down.

A long-term extension would see Son stay with Tottenham well into his 30’s, with Mourinho now admitting that he would like to see Son sign a deal to stay with Spurs ‘for life’.

Mourinho noted that the global pandemic means this is a ‘very strange’ situation, as you don’t really know if the finances are there to improve contracts.

Mourinho added that he doesn’t even ask for updates on the talks as he trusts Son and Levy to get a deal done, predicting that Son will sign soon.

“You don’t know if you can offer the player a better contract than they have now. I think it’s a very strange moment. I just trust Sonny and Mr Levy,” said Mourinho. “I know that both, they want [him] to stay, if possible, for life, if possible until the end of the career, so I see Sonny signing a new contract here, but I don’t believe and I don’t even ask and I don’t even press for something to happen now because probably it’s not the right moment to happen,” he added.
