Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that Eric Dier was “perfect” against Manchester United on Friday evening.

Dier was in action for Tottenham against United at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

The England international was deployed in central defence alongside Davinson Sanchez, and although he conceded a penalty, the 26-year-old – who can also operate as a defensive midfielder – made a brilliant tackle on Anthony Martial and had a good overall game except against the moments against Paul Pogba.

Tottenham head coach Mourinho has raved about Dier, and believes that it is due to the 26-year-old that Martial did not have a good game.

Mourinho told Football.London about Dier: “Eric was perfect. I think he had a very strong performance and he was imposing his leadership, physicality, he won absolutely every ball in the air, and won absolutely ever duel. It was a difficult match for Martial, we know he’s a very good player.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, against United on Friday evening, Dier had a pass accuracy of 81.3%, won five headers, took 45 touches, and made nine clearances.

So far this season, the Englishman has made 11 starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League for Spurs, providing two assists in the process, according to WhoScored.

The draw with United means that Tottenham are now eighth in the Premier League table with 42 points from 30 matches.
