Tottenham Hotspur are set to take on Liverpool in the Champions League final, with Mauricio Pochettino looking to win his first major trophy.

Jose Mourinho has suggested to Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur winning the Champions League could be the catalyst for them to regularly fill their trophy cabinet.

Tottenham have not won major silverware since 2008, when they lifted the League Cup.

Mauricio Pochettino has made vast improvement at Spurs, but he is still yet to lift a trophy above his head.

Tottenham do have a chance to win the Champions League in two weekends’ time though.

Spurs take on Liverpool in arguably the biggest game of their history.

And Mourinho feels that if Tottenham can get over the line then Spurs could become very familiar with winning trophies in the coming years.

“Spurs are not winning titles and to win the first one would be fantastic and could lead to other domestic trophies because the Champions League is the biggest one of all,” said Mourinho.

“Finals are not to play, finals are to win.”

Spurs go into the Champions League final as underdogs to beat Liverpool, but their run to this stage has been spectacular.

Tottenham have been on the verge of an exit from the competition on multiple occasions, only to battle through.

If Spurs can win in Madrid it will rank up their with the best achievements in the north London club’s history.
