Jose Mourinho has reportedly contacted Memphis Depay to consider a move AS Roma amid rumours that Tottenham are interested in signing the Dutch forward.
According to CalcioMercato, the Portuguese coach is said to have personally contacted Depay in the past few days to discuss the possibility of a move to the Italian capital, with Mourinho said to be a big fan of the FC Barcelona superstar and ‘dreaming’ of brining the attacker to Roma.
Depay only joined the Catalan giants in 2021 having left Olympique Lyonnais for free to sign for Barcelona. However, the forward could already be set to leave the Camp Nou with January interest rampant in the Netherlands international.
And according to 90min, Tottenham are in the race to sign Depay, with Antonio Conte keen on adding an attacker to the north London side’s ranks in January, with the forward’s impressive performances for Holland at the 2022 FIFA World Cup seemingly driving interest in the 28-year-old.

However, Roma entering the competition could complicate matters for Tottenham, with Mourinho’s persuasive powers and reputation in the game something that could see Spurs lose out on the signing of Depay, who could be one of the transfers of the January window.
With Sport previously claiming that Barcelona will sell Depay for £17m, Roma will have to spend quite a pretty penny to land Depay in January, and Tottenham’s interest could be the last thing Mourinho wants even with the former Spurs boss already being in contact with the attacker.
Roma signing Depay would be a massive blow for Tottenham

Attack might be the last of Tottenham’s worries heading into the second half of the season. However, there’s no denying that missing out on a player like Depay to Roma and Mourinho would be a massive blow for the north London side in January.
After all, the Barcelona stat is thriving at the World Cup and is currently hitting the peak of his career. And whilst Tottenham have an abundance of attackers in their ranks, a world-class talent like Depay would be quite the move from Conte, doubly so at Mourinho’s expense.
