Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has jokingly told Football.London that Harry Winks should not have been honest about his goal against Ludogorets Razgrad.
Winks scored a brilliant goal for Tottenham in their 4-0 win against Ludogorets at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
The 24-year-old midfielder found the back of the net with a brilliant effort from over 50 yards.
After the match, the England international told BT Sports that he did not mean it, and that he was looking to find Gareth Bale.
Mourinho has joked that if it was him, then he would have told everyone that he meant to score.
The Portuguese told Football.London: “Winks was honest and he told in some flash interview that what he wanted to do was some diagonal pass.
“If it was me I would say I tried to score that goal and it would be a candidate for the Puskas awards, but no he wanted to make the pass to Gareth.”
Encouraging performance from Harry Winks
Winks is not guaranteed a place in the Tottenham starting lineup, but the 24-year-old played well on Thursday evening.
The midfielder was very bright and lively, created chances, and linked up well with his teammates.
According to WhoScored, Winks took three shots, played four key passes, had a pass accuracy of 90.5%, took 125 touches, made one tackle and two interceptions, and put in two crosses.
