Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed to Football London that Jan Vertonghen and Michel Vorm have signed contract extensions, in ‘very good news’ for the club.
Both Vertonghen and Vorm are due to be free agents at the end of the season, but Tottenham have at least been able to persuade the pair to stick around until the end of the campaign.
There were fears that Tottenham’s squad could be weakened by the departure of Vertonghen and Vorm, whose deals were originally set to expire on June 30th.
However, the experienced duo now will be available to play for Spurs until the end of the season.
And Mourinho said: “It’s very important of course. Now we’re focused on this period that will end in the end of July. “Let’s see what happens after that but after that will be a few days holidays or preparation for the new season. But now, for the next month, we needed to make sure Jan and Michel were available for us.
“That shows their commitment to the club and also to the group. That’s very good news for us because we need everybody until the end.”

The chances of both Vertonghen and Vorm starting for Tottenham before the end of the season seem limited.
Vertonghen may be given game time, if Tottenham’s defensive options begin to tire, but Vorm will surely be kept in reserve.
The Dutch stopper is Mourinho’s third choice, and unless an injury crisis strikes it seems unlikely that he will play another game for Tottenham before he moves on.
