Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has given his take on the performance of Gareth Bale on Monday evening, as quoted in Football.London.

Bale, who returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, scored for Spurs in their 4-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers away from home in the FA Cup last night.

The Wales international winger found the back of the net in first-half injury time when he hooked in Lucas Moura’s cross.

The 31-year-old winger played for the entire 90 minutes, and Mourinho was pleased, saying that he never felt that he had to take him off.

Football.London quotes Mourinho as saying about Bale: “It was good, was good. Some good movement. Some one and against one, beating people, attacking people, creating chances.

“Of course scoring a goal. Apart from that I never felt he couldn’t play the 90 minutes. I never felt that I needed to change him and that is good.

“Of course the Championship is a good, competitive level and the aggression is high and the intensity is good. So I’m happy.”

Kicking on

Bale has not been at his best for Spurs so far this season. The winger carried an injury when he joined, and after he recovered full fitness, he struggled to get into the starting lineup.

The winger’s performance and goal against Wycombe is unlikely to see him get into the starting lineup against Liverpool in the Premier League game this week, but his display showed that he remains a very good player who will contribute to Tottenham in the final months of the season.

According to WhoScored, Bale took eight shots and two were on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 77.4%, won one header, took 54 touches, attempted five dribbles, and put in five crosses.
