Tottenham Hotspur head coach Jose Mourinho has given his take on the performance of Dele Alli against Ludogorets Razgrad last night, as quoted in Football.London.
Alli made a rare start for Tottenham in their Europa League match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday evening.
The 24-year-old England international has a very good game, as he set up Carlo Vinicius for his second goal very unselfishly, created chances and went close to scoring himself.
According to WhoScored, the midfielder took three shots of which one was on target, played two key passes, had a pass accuracy of 79.7%, won two headers, took 80 touches, attempted one dribble, made two interceptions, and put in one cross.
Mourinho told Football.London about Alli: “Dele was like the team. A very good first half. In the second half in the first 20-25 minutes they closed and tried not to concede more goals.
“We became a little bit more passive and we never really felt the threat of a possible goal and 2-1 and game open and we let it go a little bit down.?
The Portuguese added: “He could try to score but for Vinicius it was an easy goal. A team player does that. No risk and 2-0. Doesn’t surprise me that he did that.”
Taking his chance
It is not easy for any footballer to come into the team and make an impact after struggling for playing time, but Alli did just that.
The 24-year-old former Milton Keynes Dons player is unlikely to start for Spurs in their Premier League game against Chelsea this weekend.
However, Alli’s attitude and performance on Thursday evening will have shown Mourinho that he would be a good option to have on the substitutes’ bench at Stamford Bridge.
