Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has labelled Matt Doherty’s performance as ‘impeccable’, after last night’s 4-1 win against Crystal Palace, on the club’s official website.

Doherty has endured a difficult time since moving to Tottenham in the summer.

However, he has now started in Spurs’s last two games and helped them to victory in both of them.

Doherty looked solid yesterday, and Mourinho made a point to praise the Irishman after the game.

“I would say that Matt Doherty was impeccable in his defensive football.”

Mourinho’s praise should do Doherty the world of good, as it would be understandable if his confidence had been knocked after his slow start at Tottenham.

ESPN recently reported that Doherty was already facing an uncertain future at Spurs, given his struggles so far.

But Mourinho’s public praise suggests that the former Wolves man could still turn things around at Tottenham between now and the end of the season.

It now remains to be seen whether Doherty will be backed to start again on Thursday, when Spurs take on Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.
