Jose Mourinho could provide Manchester United a much-needed financial aid this summer by returning to his old club in search of new signings.

Ineos have made no secret of their plans to reshape the Manchester United squad, but selling players has proven to be the biggest hurdle so far.

Marcus Rashford, Antony and Sancho are all free to leave Old Trafford, but finding clubs willing to match their wages has been easier said than done.

Ruben Amorim warned recently that United couldn’t afford to carry passengers over another long season, making it clear that departures are crucial to the club’s plans.

While Jose Mourinho won’t solve all of United’s problems, he may be about to offer a solution for one of them, stepping in with interest in Sancho.

Jose Mourinho steps in with interest in Sancho

According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncoglu, Fenerbahce have enquired about Sancho’s conditions for a potential summer move.

Napoli appear to remain in the lead for Sancho’s signature, with a £21m deal, but Mourinho’s interest gives United another potential exit path should the Serie A move fall through.

Sancho’s £300,000-a-week wages were a sticking point, but recent reports suggest he’s now open to a pay cut to secure his departure from Manchester.

The winger is considered one of the biggest flops in Red Devils history, and he also struggled to settle at Chelsea. Now, he’s likely to leave the Premier League in search of a new challenge, hoping to replicate the success he once had in the Bundesliga.

If a move to Fenerbahce materialises, Sancho would find himself alongside several familiar faces.

Fred left United in 2023 and has settled well in Turkey, contributing regularly under Mourinho’s management.

Former United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat also joined Fenerbahce after the club declined to activate his permanent buy option, opting for another loan spell instead.

They started against the Red Devils in the 2024/25 Europa League, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium.
