Tottenham Hotspur are praised by Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho catches the ball during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on August 27, 2018 in Manchester, England.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told Sky Sports that it is not easy to sign the best players from Tottenham Hotspur.

Mourinho made the comments while explaining why it is difficult for United to bring the best players in the world to Old Trafford.

When asked if expectations were different at United to other clubs, Mourinho told Sky Sports: “It depends. I will give you an example, that I hope is a good example. I hope you can interpret it in the right way.

“Is Manchester United by history, by its dimensions, bigger than Tottenham? With all the respect – Tottenham is an amazing club – I think everybody would say yes.

“Can we go to Tottenham and buy their best players? No – because they don’t sell or because they are so powerful that they can say no.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s progress

Mourinho’s comments will make Tottenham fans proud, and underline just how far the North London club have come and how much they have progressed in recent years.

Not so long ago Tottenham were selling the likes of Gareth Bale. Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov, but things have changed.

True, Spurs are not at the same level as United, Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus in terms of global popularity and stature, but the North London outfit are not in a position to sell their best players.

Tottenham can very well keep hold of the likes of Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli even if big clubs make huge offers.

Spurs are third in the Premier League table at the moment, while United are currently seventh in the standings.
