Tottenham Hotspur attacker Gareth Bale is enduring a difficult time – and he wasn’t even involved against Everton on Wednesday night.
Spurs travelled to Goodison Park in search of a victory to send them into the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, and it turned out to be a truly bizarre game.
Bernard sent Everton through with a 5-4 victory in injury time, with both sides squandering the lead in a topsy-turvy encounter.
Spurs will now have to focus on this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City, and it’s unclear whether Bale will be involved.
The Welshman has struggled of late, and after being an unused substitute against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon, he wasn’t even named in the squad to face Everton.
Before the game, Mourinho suggested that Bale wasn’t happy with his training session on Tuesday, and had ‘some feelings’ he wasn’t pleased with, so he stayed in North London with Tottenham’s sports science team.
That seemed strange given that Bale posted on Instagram that he had a ‘good session’ in training on Tuesday, completely contradicting Mourinho’s comments.
After the game, Mourinho told Football.London that he was ‘a little bit surprised’ by Bale wanting a scan given that he didn’t even come on against West Brom.
Mourinho claims he was informed that Bale wanted to work on his issue rather than play, but the Spurs boss doesn’t seem best pleased with the winger right now.
“Well I think it’s better for me to say. So we played against West Bromwich on the Sunday and he didn’t play. On Monday I was a little bit surprised by him wanting to have a scan because he was not comfortable with some muscular area,” said Mourinho.
“So he didn’t train on Monday and then on Tuesday he trained with the team but I was informed that his desire would be to work with the sports science for a couple of days to strengthen that area where he’s not feeling comfortable. That’s the reason why he’s not here,” he added.
