Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that Jose Mourinho is more than capable of replacing him as Manchester United boss. United could do much worse.
Jose Mourinho seems to turn everything he touches into gold. He won the Champions League with Porto, the Premier League with Chelsea, the Champions League again with Inter Milan and wrestled the La Liga title away from Barcelona. However, his biggest challenge or challenges could come in Manchester.
Talk of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement has been widespread this season with many different names linked to follow him at Old Trafford. Ferguson has openly admitted that one manager who is certainly good enough to do the job is Mourinho, a brilliant coach to watch in any sort of press conference.
Mourinho loves a challenge and there won’t be any bigger than coaching Manchester United once Fergie has gone and put his feet up for the first time in decades. Life under Mourinho would certainly be interesting in a variety of ways which will benefit the club.
Firstly, the Portuguese boss knows how to win the major trophies. He knows how to keep United at the top of their game and ensure that there will be no fallout period when Fergie has gone. This is going to be one of the most important things for the club, they will expect to retain title winning and European Cup winning form.
He’s a brilliant tactician which is important for all of the future battles the club will have with Manchester City over the league title and with other giants in Europe. Ferguson has always made big and bold tactical decision and Mourinho would carry this element of the side forward perfectly.
He’s also superb when it comes to man management and sticking up for his players and his club in general. Very few outside United get their teeth into the club without some form of retaliation from Sir Alex and this is something that would carry on under the guidance of Mourinho.
It could provide an opportunity for Mourinho to settle down. He seems to be a coach that moves on quickly from one job to the next after he has achieved success. It will be a few years yet before Fergie calls it a day so expect to see Mourinho popping up in places such as Manchester City, Chelsea, maybe even somewhere like Bayern Munich.
This aspect of him will have to change because United will not appoint anyone they don’t expect to have the same sort of longevity as Ferguson. This is why some are saying that Pep Guardiola would be a better alternative. However, Mourinho isn’t going to keep hopping around like a rabbit, sooner or later he is going to settle somewhere and there will be few United fans who would argue if that was Old Trafford.
