Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has told Football.London that he wouldn’t be surprised if there were injury problems in his side.

Spurs travelled up to take on Newcastle United on Wednesday evening, and were looking for another positive result having beaten Arsenal on Sunday.

Son Heung-min fired Spurs in front with an outstanding finish, only for Matt Ritchie to haul the Magpies level after the break with a thumping drive.

Tottenham weren’t to be denied though, as Harry Kane headed home Steven Bergwijn’s cross before adding his second and Tottenham’s third from close range.

Despite some concerning signs against Sheffield United and Bournemouth, it’s now three wins in four for Spurs as they attempt to finish the season strongly.

Tottenham are attempting to qualify for Europe, and that means that some players – such as Son, Kane, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso, Serge Aurier and Ben Davies – are putting in a staggering amount of work.

They’re playing so much football without much rest, and Mourinho has admitted that ‘it wouldn’t be a surprise’ if these players ended up with injuries because they’re putting themselves through so much.

Mourinho admitted that he has been preaching body over mind to his players in order to mount one last push for European qualification, and believes his players have been ‘fantastic’ – even if the threat of injuries is strong.

“Even today I was speaking with the players, I don’t like to hide things from the players, I try to be always honest with them even if I say something they don’t like or doesn’t look like I am a great motivator,” said Mourinho. “I told them ‘I know you are tired and that you only have energy in your brain and not in your legs. Your body is dead but your brain is not and it’s there where you have to go and to get that energy. It’s not in your legs, it’s in your brain that you must go’.”

“I think the players they were fantastic in this aspect. They were amazing, amazing and I’m so happy that no injuries are coming because it wouldn’t be a surprise. It wouldn’t be a surprise for me, these guys that are playing almost every minute of every game. Fantastic. Twelve more days and hopefully they have that little holiday and hopefully we manage to get a Europa League spot,” he added.
