Southampton defender Jose Fonte wants the club to finish above seventh next term.
Jose Fonte has told Southampton’s official website that the side are determined not to stand still next season.
The Saints defied expectations this campaign, finishing in seventh spot in the Premier League table, but Fonte wants to ensure that his teammates don’t rest of their laurels.
The Portuguese defender says that Southampton need to kick on again next term, where they will be aiming to finish even further up the top-flight standings.
“The standard gets higher and higher, so we really need to keep going. That’s the only way forward, is keep stepping up and keep being better and better, so we will try and do that.
“This is another step, so next year we want to finish above seventh, that’s for sure.”
Southampton’s success has been remarkable this season, considering the volume of players they lost last summer.
The Saints saw many of their key stars depart, but they responded well to the adversity and performed admirably.
Southampton will now be hoping to keep the bulk of their squad together and if they can, then they certainly have a chance of finishing even higher next season.
