Is the 33-year-old West Ham United’s most improved player?

There hasn’t been a lot of positives for West Ham United this season.
The Hammers have managed only two Premier League wins so far as Slaven Bilic’s side sit 15th in the standings.
This season promised more before it began following a very decent summer on the transfer front, but positives have been few and far between.

However, one of the big positives has come in the form of veteran centre-back Jose Fonte.
The 33-year-old defender continues to enjoy a remarkable resurgence following a testing start to the campaign which reaffirmed the theory that West Ham had wasted £8 million in bringing him in.

He struggled in the 3-2 defeat at Southampton back in August as fans eviscerated him, but Fonte might well be one of Bilic’s most important players now and his performance in the 1-1 draw at Burnley is evidence of that.
It’s been a rotten season for the Hammers, but it could and would get a whole lot worse if the former Southampton man finds himself on the sidelines with injury.
The Portugal international turns 34 in December and is not a long-term option for the Irons, but for now Bilic is certainly getting bang for his buck.
