West Ham United have replaced Slaven Bilic with David Moyes as the manager.
The Hammers recently parted company with Slaven Bilic, with David Moyes taking charge of the first team until the end of the season.
The London club are struggling at the moment and are in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.
West Ham defender Fonte has admitted that a change was needed at the club to get things back on track.
The 33-year-old Portugal international centre-back, who joined the Hammers from Southampton in January 2017 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £8 million, has also said that he has heard good things about new manager Moyes.
As reported by Football.London, Fonte will be out of action until the New Year with a foot injury.
Fonte said on The Friday Football Social show on BBC Radio 5 live on Friday evening (7:49pm, November 17, 2017): “The fact is that it wasn’t working, and obviously I appreciate everything that Slaven did for me and for my career and for believing in me, but perhaps a change was needed to galvanise and to change the whole atmosphere at the club.”
“I have been hearing good things about the sessions from himself, from his staff, so we look forward on Sunday to play against Watford,” added Fonte about Moyes.
Meanwhile, Moyes has been coy on whether he has looked at 20-year-old forward Toni Martinez yet.
Moyes told Football.London on Friday when asked if he has looked at Martinez at all: “We’ve had the U23s with us for a week and a half. The only reason they aren’t here today is that they have got their own game tonight, I will go and have a look at them.
“We have got a few injuries so I will probably bring one or two with me from the U23s into the first team squad but the best thing is, they have been involved, working with the first team and myself and I am starting to get to know one or two of them.”
