According to The Times, Liverpool’s transfer business is over for this summer, and they will target a new top midfielder next year.
It’s clear for all to see that Liverpool could probably do with an extra body in the midfield. After all, Thiago Alcantara can be injury-prone, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be leaving, Naby Keita is inconsistent and James Milner isn’t getting any younger.
As brilliant as every Liverpool player is, it’s fair to say that the Reds’ midfield is the weakest aspect of Jurgen Klopp’s team, and there could be a chance for a young player to make their mark in a midfield role this term.
Liverpool have plenty of exciting young midfield players coming through such as Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott, but Jose Enrique has earmarked Curtis Jones for a potentially key role next season.
Enrique believes that Jones could have a real part to play next season if he can be more consistent, but sadly, that’s easier said than done.
Indeed, if consistency was that easy, every footballer would put in a top performance every week, but this sport just doesn’t work like that.
If the youngster is to be more consistent, he needs to continue to work incredibly hard and continue to play with confidence.
Jones can look like a world-beater at his best, but on his off-days, he looks out of his depth playing in this Liverpool team.
The youngster is still honing his craft so a few below-par performances can be excused, but if he is to play a key role this term, he needs to up his game a level or two.
Fingers crossed Jones can step up this season because he certainly has the talent to be a star for the Reds.
