Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports that Liverpool luring Jude Bellingham to Anfield would be a “massive signing” – but Jose Enrique has responded to his claim, saying he would rather a few signings, than spending everything on him.
Bellingham, 19, has starred for Dortmund since swapping Birmingham City for the German club. Already, he has played 112 times in all competitions and this season – has scored nine goals in 22 games. He was superb for England in Qatar.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move. Marca, like many other outlets, report that Liverpool are in the midst of a three-way race for Bellingham – alongside Manchester City and Real Madrid. The others have big spending power.
Carragher was speaking to Sky Sports, as posted on their Instagram. He said that Bellingham would be a “massive signing” for Liverpool, before telling Bellingham that “there’s no better place to win at Liverpool”. He says it is “special”.
However, Enrique – an old teammate of Carragher’s at Liverpool – said that while he would love Bellingham, he would prefer the Reds to bring in a number of signings. If signing Bellingham means all the cash is gone, then he’d rather not.
Enrique responds to Carragher claim on Liverpool signing Bellingham
Bellingham would be a sensational signing, as Carragher says, for any club. But Enrique makes a very strong claim. Liverpool’s woeful season has shown that they need additions in a number of positions – and a big summer is crucial.
Defenders and midfielders are needed on Merseyside. Fabinho, Thiago, Virgil van Dijk and plenty of others have not performed to their usual level. More competition is required. It all depends how much cash the Reds have to spend.
If they can get Bellingham and bring in two or three other quality signings, then Enrique urges them to do it. Rightly so. But if it is Bellingham and no others, Liverpool will still be light in terms of quality elsewhere. A big summer ahead.
