Liverpool have reportedly beaten Everton, Newcastle and Leeds to the £500,000 signing of Celtic teen Ben Doak – and Jose Enrique has reacted to the news on Instagram, applauding the work done at academy level.
Doak, 16, has completed move south of the border according to a report from 90Min – who state that Liverpool have agreed to pay Celtic a figure of £500,000 for the young midfielder. He made his first-team debut this term.
Indeed, Doak came off the bench in two Scottish Premiership matches as Celtic remain top of the table – looking to stave off the challenge of Old Firm rivals Rangers. 90Min say Liverpool were not alone in their pursuit.
Indeed, Everton, Newcastle and Leeds also wanted the Scotland Under-17 star. However, Liverpool have won the race to lure him to Anfield in the coming months. Enrique, a Liverpool fan, reacted on his Instagram story.
Enrique on Doak: £500k deal could be Liverpool bargain in future
Doak is a top, top talent. To break into the Celtic first team from the academy is an achievement in itself, not many do. But to do it at the age of 16 is impressive. Kieran Tierney did it just before his 18th birthday.
So, for Doak to get his chance at 16, it shows there is real potential in this youngster. Liverpool have got themselves a bargain, and in a few years time, that point could be proven in a Liverpool shirt.
