Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping Tottenham Hotspur’s serious bad run of form is now fully behind them as they take on Watford on Saturday.

Jose Enrique thinks that it’s ‘very difficult’ to see Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino making a switch to Real Madrid, but he did admit that ‘you never know’ in football.

Spurs have endured a nightmare start to the season, as Pochettino has the task in guiding the club back to steady waters after several hard-hitting defeats.

In May, Pochettino stated, before the game in Madrid, that he would have left Tottenham had the club won the Champions League final, as reported by The Guardian.

Speaking to Football Centre on Sky Sports News (16/10/2019 at 10:50 am), Former Reds defender Enrique doesn’t think those comments were helpful to Spurs’ cause as they find themselves in a bit of a hole now.

“At one point in the summer he was linked with Real Madrid as everyone knows,” Enrique told Sky Sports. “But I think him going to the press last season and saying if we win the Champions League that he probably leave the club.

“I don’t think [those comments] were positive because then Eriksen wanted to leave in the summer as well and he’s not doing as well as he used to.

“I don’t really know what is happening there, but everyone needs to remember that he has been a lot of years at Tottenham. Sometimes he’s not even spending money in the summer and he’s always done well. I expect him to come back.

On a Real Madrid move: “You never know in football. You can say yes but it depends on how Real Madrid is doing. In the end, Zidane, he has [previosuly] won three Champions Leagues in a row, so it’s going to be very difficult for Madrid to sack him and then for Mauricio Pochettino to go there. Of course, they have to pay a fee for him as well, so it’s going to be very difficult, but you can never say never.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager

Pochettino has proven at Tottenham that he has the capabilities of bringing the best out of youngsters, those who have previously struggled and academy players.

Spurs will be hoping he can do the same in these coming months because the club is in need of a serious lift, at this moment in time.

Perhaps the January transfer window will help, but either way, many Spurs fans will agree that he deserves the chance to prove his worth to the club once again.
