Scottish Premiership champions Celtic and English Premier League champions Manchester City are reportedly keen on CD America’s Jose Cifuentes.

Celtic fans celebrate their team winning the Scottish Cup during the Scottish Cup Final between Heart of Midlothian FC and Celtic FC at Hampden Park on May 25, 2019 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Given Manchester City’s recent dominance in English football, and their financial muscle, a team like Celtic would understandably find it difficult to compete with them in the transfer market.

The Scottish Sun recently claimed that Scottish champions Celtic and English champions Manchester City are keen on the services of CD America midfielder Jose Cifuentes.

The 20-year-old South American wonderkid operates as a defensive-minded midfielder as he could be making a switch from Ecuador to the British isles sooner rather than later.

If that were to happen then the highly-rated player shouldn’t hesitate in making a switch to Celtic rather than Man City because it would benefit the next five years of his career.

There’s no doubt that Cifuentes would earn more game time, far more game time, at Parkhead rather than the Etihad Stadium where he would have to compete against a plethora of world class superstars.

Of course, it all depends on how the youngster is able to adjust his game from playing in South America, in a relatively unknown league, to playing in Britain and whether he can transcend his performances.

Jose Cifuentes of Ecuador controls the ball during the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup Third Place Play-Off match between Italy and Ecuador at Gdynia Stadium on June 14, 2019 in Gdynia, Poland.

If he can then playing for the Scottish Premiership champions is the way forward because they have a previous record of taking the game of those unknown players to the next level. Examples, Virgil van Dijk, and more logically Victor Wanyama.

It remains to be seen how far Cifuentes can take his game, but if he takes it to the levels of a Wanyama then Celtic in a general sense would struggle to sign or keep hold of a player like that.

Therefore, Celtic’s best chance is signing those players when they have an ‘unknown’ tag above their heads because they simply cannot compete with other European giants in the transfer market.
