Celtic have been linked with a move for Jose Cifuentes.

Celtic are keen on a move for Ecuador talent Jose Cifuentes, report The Scottish Sun.

Rival competition from Manchester City makes a deal tricky, but also is encouraging considering the calibre of player they already have at the club.

The report claims a deal could be done for just £2.5 million, and at that price, Celtic really have to take a gamble.

Celtic are not blessed with a budget where they can drop £15-20 million on players. That prevents them from buying players from certain markets with over inflated price tags.

This means they must think a little outside-the-box with regards to transfer targets. Cifuentes is just the type of player they should be gambling on.

He recently starred at the under-20 World Cup for his country.

Earlier this year Celtic struck a deal for another rough diamond, Maryan Shved. He is currently out on loan in Ukraine.

Celtic have had some misses with low cost deals, Kundai Benyu and Kouassi Eboue are notable examples.

Moussa Dembele was one which did work out, and gave the club a £19 million profit.

Signing young players is hit and miss, and Celtic must not be spooked by the ones which don’t work out. It’s a smart strategy.

£2.5 million is nothing in today’s market, and if Celtic’s scouts are truly convinced by Cifuentes, there is no reason not to be bold and make their move.
