Jose Alvarado did not turn the Knicks’ potential White House visit into a political issue, but he did make his position clear.
The Knicks guard was asked about the possibility following New York’s NBA Finals win over the San Antonio Spurs, a victory that ended the franchise’s 53-year title drought. The question came as celebrations continued across the city.
Alvarado’s answer was brief, but it said plenty about how he views the decision. For him, the focus was not on the spotlight, it was on the locker room.

Jose Alvarado White House answer shows Knicks team-first approach
TMZ Sports caught up with Alvarado after the Knicks’ title win, asking him about the possibility of a White House visit.
Alvarado kept it simple: “If there’s a chance, I’m going wherever my teammate goes.”
TMZ reported that Alvarado was spotted leaving iHeart studios in New York City on June 17, just days after the Knicks clinched the championship. While his answer did not confirm anything official, it suggested he would follow the team’s lead if the Knicks chose to make the trip.
That is notable because White House visits for championship teams have become more politically charged in recent years, and this one would come during Donald Trump’s presidency.
Knicks title win gave Jose Alvarado and teammates historic platform
The question was inevitable given the moment: the Knicks are champions for the first time since 1973. They beat the Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 to take the series 4-1.
Jalen Brunson led the way with 45 points in the clincher, earning Finals MVP honors as New York came back from a 16-point deficit.
Alvarado’s own Game 5 was quieter. He played 11 minutes, missed all five of his shots and finished scoreless, but his energy and defense still made him part of the rotation.
That context makes his White House comment feel consistent. Alvarado was not trying to make himself the story, he framed the decision around the group, just as his role on this Knicks team has always been about fitting into something bigger.
