Rangers have been linked with Santos Laguna defender Jose Abella.

Santos Laguna defender Jose Abella has told Yo Deportivo that he has not had any contact from Rangers about a possible move to Ibrox.

Gers boss Pedro Caixinha has been busy in the transfer market this summer, landing five new signings – Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Dalcio and Daniel Candeias.

However, Caixinha is far from finished with his Rangers revolution. Mexican internationals Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera are set to join once their work permits have been rubber-stamped, and the same can be said of HJK Helsinki’s Colombian goal machine Alfredo Morelos.

That would take Rangers’ summer influx to eight new signings, and it’s unclear just how many more additions Caixinha would want before the start of next season.

Caixinha’s spell managing Santos Laguna in Mexico has provided the background for moves to sign Pena and Herrera, and he has recently been linked with another move to sign a Mexican talent.

AS claim that Caixinha is interested in signing Santos Laguna right back Jose Abella, having previously worked together at the Estadio Corona.

Abella, 23, has come up through the ranks with Santos Laguna, and has racked up more than 100 appearances for the club, emerging as an important player for the club.

Now, Abella has told Yo Deportivo that whilst he has heard about the links with Rangers in the media, he has had no contact over a move to reunite with his former boss Caixinha at Ibrox, seemingly putting an end to this rumour.

“I have heard through the media, but nobody has spoken to me or anything, and only they are only rumours,” said Abella.
