Marco Mathias has not made a Championship start for Sheffield Wednesday so far this season.
Carlos Carvalhal had appeared to have deemed Matias surplus to requirements during his time in charge this season.
The Portuguese winger had played just two Championship matches all campaign, but he was handed a start in the FA Cup last night and impressed.
Mathias scored during Wednesday’s 2-0 win over League Two side Carlisle United.
And Luhukay has suggested that Matias will now come into his starting line-up over the coming weeks.
He said: “He was very dangerous and showed good speed. He scored a good goal. He has not played much in the last weeks and months but Carlisle found it difficult to stop him.
“Marco is a player with a lot of speed and can play in two or three positions. I have a player who I can maybe in the next games give him a chance to play.”
Matias has previously proven to be a threat at Championship level, so it was a surprise he has not been used more regularly be Carvalhal.
Wednesday have not been at their best going forward this campaign, and Luhukay will hope to get more out of his side’s offensive players during his time at the helm.
Luhukay drew his first match in charge at Wednesday, with the Owls picking up a credible 0-0 draw with Sheffield United.
