But £4 million defender Joost van Aken remains a ‘big question’ for Sheffield Wednesday.

Jos Luhukay has revealed he expects all but one of Sheffield Wednesday’s injured players to be back in time for pre-season, with Joost van Aken the Owls boss’s only ‘big question’.

Despite the recent returns of key men Tom Lees, Barry Bannan and Fernando Forestieri from long lay-offs, Wednesday are still without nine players for their remaining three fixtures.

And asked if Van Aken, who has been missing from first team action since Boxing Day, was his only doubt ahead of the Owls’ return to training this summer, Luhukay replied via the club’s official Facebook page. “Yeah, Joost is the big question.

“Today he had surgery in Portugal so tomorrow we’ll have the news, how long Joost may be out. A couple of weeks or months we do not know.”

While Luhukay also spoke directly about absent quartet Keiren Westwood, Kieran Lee, Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher, the names of Morgan Fox, Sam Hutchinson, Ross Wallace and Sean Clare were not discussed at Thursday’s press conference.

Both Clare and Wallace are out of contract at Hillsborough this summer, although only the former is known to have been offered fresh terms.

But the 21-year-old has yet to accept the offer from Sheffield Wednesday, who could have rivals for his signature in both the Championship and Premier League, according to recent reports.
