Sheffield Wednesday remain in talks with Sean Clare regarding a new contract, manager Jos Luhukay has claimed.
Clare is being linked with moves to several Premier League and Championship clubs – notably Everton and Tottenham Hotspur – after breaking into Wednesday’s starting 11 in recent weeks.
And according to the Sunday Mirror, the 21-year-old is ‘set to leave’ Hillsborough when his current deal expires this summer.
However, Luhukay told a press conference – broadcast via the Owls’ official Facebook page on Monday – that, to his knowledge, Clare has yet to make a decision regarding his future.
“I’m not now in a situation where I can say,” the Dutchman replied when asked if there had been any progress. “They [Sheffield Wednesday and Clare] are speaking with each other and maybe in the next days we have more news about that.”
Clare, who has scored once in three starts for Wednesday, is one of six players out of contract at Hillsborough this summer – along with Daniel Pudil, Glenn Loovens, Ross Wallace, Atdhe Nuhiu and George Hirst.
The former Nike Academy player cost the Owls nothing two years ago, and it is likely that they would be compensated in the event of his departure this summer.
