New Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay has revealed that he has spoken to Carlos Carvalhal regarding the job ahead of him at Hillsborough.

Luhukay’s appointment was confirmed by the Owls on Friday – less than a fortnight after Carvalhal left the club by mutual consent.

Carvalhal is already back in work himself, having been hired as Swansea City’s head coach four days later.

But speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield at his unveiling on Monday, Luhukay told how the Portuguese has already taken time out from his new role to fill him in on life at Hillsborough.

“Yeah, of course [he’s spoken to Carvalhal],” said the Dutchman. “We had a very good conversation together.

“We spoke about football but also about his job here.

“I think the information that I have received is good and I know a little bit more about this team, the players, the quality from the players, the character of the players, the mentality.

“Now I am working with them, and the motivation is very high.”

Carvalhal spent two-and-a-half years as Sheffield Wednesday head coach, in which he twice led the Owls to the Championship play-offs.

Though he has never before managed outside of Germany – whose Football Association he achieved his coaching badges with – Luhukay did gain promotion from the country’s equivalent division with three different clubs.
