Jos Luhukay has returned to management four months after leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
The Dutchman’s Hillsborough contract was terminated by mutual consent after a run of seven defeats and one win in ten matches in the run up to Christmas.
But he will end the campaign in charge of St Pauli, after replacing Markus Kauczinski on a two-year deal.
The 2. Bundesliga side have lost three of their last four matches – including a 4-0 derby defeat at home to Hamburg – but remain sixth in the standings.
And Luhukay’s record of three promotions from Germany’s second tier – with Augsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin – should offer fresh hope to St Pauli supporters, even though he failed to replicate his past success at Sheffield Wednesday.
The 55-year-old steered the Owls away from relegation last season but left them in 18th place – nine below their current position under Steve Bruce.
Sheffield Wednesday have only lost twice in 19 Championship matches since Luhukay’s exit and remain in the hunt for the play-off place he previously suggested would be unrealistic to achieve.
